The support wheel is a key supporting component in the rotary kiln system and the dryer system. It is mainly responsible for supporting the weight of the cylinder, ensuring the smooth rotation of the cylinder, and bearing huge radial and axial loads.

1. Function of the support wheel
Support the kiln body: directly bear the entire weight of the rotary kiln cylinder, refractory materials and materials.
Transmit power: assist the drive system (such as gears, motors) to drive the kiln body to rotate.
Adjust the position of the kiln body: by adjusting the angle or position of the support wheel, the axial movement or radial offset of the kiln body can be controlled.
Reduce friction: cooperate with the wheel belt (roller ring) to reduce the friction resistance when the kiln body rotates.
2. Structure and composition
The support wheel body: usually cast with high-strength alloy steel (such as ZG340-640), and heat treated to improve hardness and wear resistance.
The support wheel shaft: made of high-quality carbon steel or alloy steel, cooperates with the bearing to transmit the load.
Bearing seat: built-in sliding bearing (such as copper tile) or rolling bearing (such as spherical roller bearing), the lubrication system ensures smooth operation.
Cooling system: Some rollers are designed with water cooling channels inside to prevent deformation at high temperatures.
3. Installation and layout
Symmetrical layout: Each group of rollers consists of two rollers installed in pairs to support a wheel band (roller ring).
Tilt angle: The axis of the roller is usually at a small angle (about 0.5°~4°) with the axis of the kiln body, and the axial movement of the kiln body is controlled by adjusting the angle.
Foundation fixation: It is fixed on the concrete foundation by anchor bolts, and the level and centering must be strictly calibrated.
4. Common problems and maintenance
Wear: Long-term friction between the contact surface of the wheel band and the roller causes wear, which requires regular inspection and repair (such as turning or surfacing).
Heat: Poor lubrication or bearing failure can easily cause high temperature, and the oil quality, oil quantity and cooling system need to be checked.
Deviation: When the center line of the kiln body deviates, it needs to be corrected by adjusting the position of the roller or the thickness of the gasket.
Cracks: Fatigue or overload may cause cracks on the surface of the roller, which requires flaw detection and timely replacement.
5. Technical parameter examples
Diameter: usually 1/4~1/3 of the wheel diameter (such as Φ1000~Φ2000mm).
Width: slightly wider than the wheel (about 100~200mm) to avoid edge stress concentration.
Speed: synchronized with the drum, generally 0.5~5 RPM (depending on the equipment model).
The support wheel is the core component for the long-term stable operation of the rotary kiln and dryer. Its design, installation and maintenance directly affect the life and production efficiency of the drum. Regularly checking the concentricity, wear state and lubrication condition of the support wheel can effectively prevent unplanned downtime. For large rotary kilns and dryers, it is recommended to use an online monitoring system to track the operation parameters of the support wheel (such as temperature and vibration) in real time.
